Maths at Forest School

Today Reception Class dodged the heavy downpours to enjoy a maths-related session at Forest School, focussing on the numbers 11-20. Mrs Andrews shared a large number square with the children and they identified the row of numbers that they needed to focus on, practising counting and identifying these numbers and amounts.

Afterwards the children were given a number (between 11 and 20 inclusive) and explored the Forest School area to find that number of natural items, such as clover, stones and twigs. They then used their items to work out one more, and one less.

After torrential rain stopped the session, the children worked with Mrs Andrews in the classroom, making links with their geography and geometry, talking about the shape of the earth and the names of the imaginary lines round it.
