On Friday last week we began Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year: Pilgrims of Hope. The year was launched in the Archdiocese of Birmingham, by a livestream event led by the Diocesan Eduction Service. Holy Redeemer joined the livestream to find out about this very special year and to sing and pray together with all of the other schools in the archdiocese.
We found out that Jubilee years only occur every twenty five years, and that during this one we are being asked to share the hope of the Christian faith with others, and renew our own faith through prayer, pilgrimage and charity. Steve Bell, our Diocesan Director of Education, told us that we should focus on prayer, social action and charity-all things that the pupils, staff and parent at Holy Redeemer are really good at.
To begin our own Year of Hope in School, everyone in the school is writing their own, personal hopes for the year on a flame. These flames will come together to provide a display of hope in the school entrance. We will then work together throughout the year, to bring these hopes to fruition.
