They began the week with PE, practising their balance and coordination by balancing eggs on spoons, while weaving in and out of cones: very tricky!

 

In ‘Adventure Ants’, the children used water and mud to create ‘paint,’ which they used to decorate the trees…and their faces! They discovered that it was very cold and tickly.

 

To support their fine motor development last week, the children cut along the lines on paper eggs and then used these pieces as a jigsaw, which they then put back together again, to fix Humpty. They also showed great care for Humpy by placing plasters on him to make him feel better. They then thought about why they believed Humpty fell, and came up with some brilliant ideas, such as he had laughed too much, or that the wall was too small to support him. Great thinking skills, Hopscotch!

 

Everyone also created their own Humpty Dumpty, making sure to give him eyes, a nose, a mouth, legs, and arms. They learned a special fold called an accordion fold, and used this technique to make his arms and legs bouncy.

 

Practising their pencil control, the children traced over their names to begin early name writing and recognition.

 

In maths, the class rolled a die and placed the same number of plasters on Humpty. They focused on the concept that the last number they counted told them how many there were altogether.

 

In science, Hopscotch explored building a wall and learned that overlapping the bricks makes for a stronger structure. The children placed Humpty on top of the wall and experimented with different materials underneath to catch him. The experiment aimed to see which materials could save Humpty; they found that soft objects helped, whilst hard objects cracked him.

 

For snack, everyone enjoyed scrambled eggs on toast. The children did very well to try this, and many enjoyed it—yum!

 

In Phonics last week, Hopscotch focused on rhyme. The children had to find two halves of eggs with pictures of things that rhymed. They found frog and dog, house and mouse, and many more.
