Fire Fighter Week in Pre-school

In Hopscotch’s topic of ‘People Who Help Us’ we thought about fire fighters last week.  We used our outdoor house to role play saving people from a fire, then used chalk to draw flames. We used water bottles to squirt the flames out.

In maths we concentrated on reading numbers, and representing numbers we know, with our own written marks.  Some of the older children enjoyed learning about number formation using rainbow writing, where they wrote over the same number with different colours.  We thought about how we hold pencils and used our pencils to write name tags for our pets in the vet role play area.

The children had lots of fun exploring in water play, using their science investigation skills to explore sinking and floating objects.  We named different materials and talked about what might happen when we put them in the water.

We are very busy making a display of people who help us, and chose our own person to decorate.  We talked about what they do for us.  Finally, we finished the week learning about crossing the road, and how lollipop men and women keep us safe.
