Class 5 Art

In Art, Class 5 have been exploring the work of Mackenzie Thorpe, a British artist  whose works are associated with a principle of “Art from the heart” – combining tenderness with fervency through his abstract depictions of animals and children. Here some studies that Oliver Hunt, Martha Cross and Joshua Hancock have made based on his work. The children worked in pastels, having first done pencil drawings based on their favourite Mackenzie Thorpe pictures. We spoke briefly about his background and who he is and his artistic style. We discussed what we thought the pictures were trying to portray and explored his colourful style using pastels. We experimented by rubbing complimentary colours together to create some of the wonderful skyscapes that Mackenzie is renowned for. Look out for a big display of their own ‘Mackenzie Thorpe inspired’ work, in the hall after half term!
