Yesterday Karen, from Keep Britain Tidy, visited Holy Redeemer again, to lead Years 4 and 5 in a litter picking session. She reminded them of how litter causes a problem for wildlife and talked to them about how much of the litter lying around our country can actually be recycled, which is much better for the environment.
After Karen’s assembly, earlier this term, the children were very fired up about doing their part to help look after God’s creation, and took this opportunity to live out the Catholic Social Teaching aspects of ‘Stewardship’, and ‘Family & Community’, by cleaning up the litter in our local area. Karen took the classes across the road to St. Agatha’s Close, and down the path towards the Abbey. She showed them how to search for litter hidden in the undergrowth and then challenged children and staff to collect as much litter as they could in the allotted time.
The children were amazed at how much litter they collected. Karen then took the litter away with her to recycle it. Well done children and thank you Karen!
