Big Sing 2024

Last week Years 3, 4 and 5 visited Worcester Arena to take part in ‘The Big Sing’: an interactive performance where key stage 2 pupils gathered from across Worcestershire to sing prepared pieces as part of a huge singing workshop. It was an exciting and motivational opportunity for children and teachers alike to be part of a large-scale musical experience. This year’s Big Sing was led by world renowned singing leaders Ula Weber and Suzzi Vango, and accompanied by a live band, and the theme was ‘Living and Learning’. Each song had been carefully chosen and was used to improve vocal technique.

Over the course of this term the classes had been learning the songs, and actions, in their music lessons with Mr Johnson, in preparation for the event. They had worked hard to learn all the words and develop their techniques. Some of this year’s songs required hitting some very high notes, and in order to support the children in extending their range, and being able to sing those notes, Mr Johnson arranged for a school workshop with Rose Johnson, the Opera outreach officer from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

It was a fantastic event and children and staff alike thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you Severn Arts!
