Welcome to Holy Redeemer

Inspiring – Educating – Developing

Take a look at some of the things that we have been up to this year so far:

Steve Wagstaff, who is a parishioner at Holy Redeemer, came in to class to tell us about his recent experiences in China. We saw photos of the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City. He also showed us how to use chopsticks. Some of us managed to eat more than others!

In science we have been learning about electricity. Flynn asked to bring in his steam engine and gave a very informative talk to the class about how it worked.

The Ancient Maya
We have been learning about the Ancient Maya Civilisation.

Can you read our names? We have written them using the Mayan script. They used different glyphs for sounds to make their writing system unique and creative.

Their Gods were very important, especially the Gods of Rain and Maize. We created our own Gods.

Year 6 have enjoyed learning more about World War 2. We read Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian and used it to produce some very reflective poetry and narratives.

We worked with Sam from Future Digital to create dramas about life in the Blitz and Evacuation.

We also worked very hard at home to complete projects on our favourite aspect of World War 2. We then presented these projects to our class and answered questions about what we had learned.

With Mrs Breakwell we looked at some of Lowry’s work and used Modroc to create our own factory scenes in the same style.
