Autumn Concert

It was standing room only in the School Hall on the afternoon of Friday 23 October, when all the children (except Reception) entertained us with their annual Autumn Concert. The Holy Redeemer Ensemble – an eclectic mix of clarinet, saxophone, pitched percussion, recorders and piano – opened the concert with Calypso Joe. This was followed by Year 1’s singing of the traditional song, Cauliflower Fluffy. Molly Beach was the first of the afternoon’s assured soloists and played Lovet Faller (Leaves are Falling) on the piano. Next, Year 2 sang the lively traditional song, Who did swallow Jonah?, followed by the Year 3 recorder players with Hot Cross Buns and Mary had a Little Lamb. Lauren Annis gave an impressive performance of Keane’s Somewhere Only You Know, accompanying her own singing on the piano.
Year 4 then performed an imaginative arrangement of Stephen Foster’s Camptown Races and this was followed by Ella Webley playing Doh-Re-Mi on the piano, complete with some impressive scales at the very end. Class 6 gave us a spirited Let It Go, followed by Lara Gembarska’s clarinet solo, Clown’s Ragtime Band and Martha Cross’ piano solo, Arietta by Clementi.
The concert was rounded off in style by the Holy Redeemer Choir’s excellent performance of Campbell’s Ocean Symphony and Menken’s joyous Under the Sea.
