At Holy Redeemer we LOVE Art!

Art and Design is a key strength of the school. It is an essential element of our creative curriculum, with children working on systematically developing and progressing their skills as they move through the school. Children are taught the full spectrum of the curriculum; textiles, drawing, colour, texture, form, modelling and clay, printing, pattern, photography and digital art, as well as learning about, and being inspired by, the lives and work of famous artists. Wherever possible classes put on exhibitions of their work and invite parents and the local community in to show them what they have achieved.

As part of our whole school approach in literacy – ‘Book as a Hook’ – and our creative curriculum, art lessons are often linked to, and inspired by, the class book that is driving their learning in English lessons.

The high quality of teaching and learning in art and design, is due to the use of our specialist Level 4 TA, Mrs Breakwell, who teaches a lot of the art across the school, and who provides staff training and support for other staff. We also work with local artists, who come into school to share their expertise, and join in with local and national art programmes/events, such as the Worcester Stands Tall project and the National Gallery ‘Take One Picture’ project.

We have gained external validation for the quality of our provision by being awarded Artsmark Silver.
