Reception Class Round-up: Handa Week 2

Last week Reception Class continued to base much of their learning around the story of ‘Handa’s Surprise’, by Eileen Browne. The children innovated the story by changing the characters (to themselves) and by choosing different fruits and animals to appear in their story. The class then enjoyed being authors and illustrators to make their own storybooks, which are now in their Reading Garden for all to enjoy! The children are very proud of their amazing writing, where they have been successfully applying their phonics, finger spaces, capital letters and full stops.

In Maths Reception have been exploring the number bonds of 10, and in RE they continued to learn about Pentecost-creating their own dances about Pentecost, the birthday of the church.

In science the class investigated what happened to different objects when they tried to blow them. The children investigated dropping a range of sycamore helicopters from a height and watching  them as they fell to the floor. They compared the different helicopters (which were made out of different materials) and finally they made their own ‘wind sticks’ by sticking different materials onto a stick, so that they could explore what happened when they blew them, or put them outside on a windy day.

Another very busy week of active learning! Well done everyone.
